We are getting healthy food into neighborhoods that had previously been lacking, teaching families how to prepare the food in fast, fun and affordable ways and working with store owners to become independent and self sufficient healthy food retailers. This year, Corner Farm was recognized nationally as a “Catalyst for Change” finalist by Partnership for a Healthier America.

Our markets are an important strategy in our efforts to bring affordable, healthy food options to the most vulnerable of our cities residents. Our unique partnership with VCU Massey Cancer Center provides produce to patients receiving treatments at Massey’s Dalton Oncology Clinic and to residents of our region’s food deserts. Our market offers Double Up incentives which are designed to overcome the two most common barriers to healthy eating: they increase the amount that families have available to spend on produce by matching SNAP benefits with additional funds and uses the new buying power to bring farm-fresh fruits and vegetables into underserved low-resource communities.
The market season is March-November.

Teaching the business and practice of urban agriculture is our motivation for getting our produce on the aisles and plates of Richmond’s best retailers and restaurants. Tricycle’s Urban Ag fellows learn the process of growing for and distributing to the buyers who support local farmers.
